Borrowing, Returning & Renewing

Borrowing our toys

  1. Visit us during opening hours to browse the library. Select your toys, & take them to the borrowing desk to check out.

  2. Before giving the toy to your child, please compare it with the toy label & note any missing pieces.

  3. If anything is missing (and not already noted on the toy label), please email us with the missing piece details.

  4. The borrowing period is three weeks, but you are welcome to change your toys more often than this.

Sometimes missing pieces can ruin the enjoyment of a toy, so if you find the missing piece means the toy is no longer fun to play with, please let us know so we can fix or retire it.

Caring for our toys

Please care for our toys as you would your own. We want as many children to enjoy our toys for as long as possible!

  • Battery-operated toys - replacement batteries are not provided by the Toy Library. Borrowing members are responsible for replacing batteries where needed. If the toy doesn’t work after battery replacement, or if a battery cover is missing or damaged (do not use the toy), please return the toy & let the coordinators know. You can also let us know by email.

  • Outdoor toys - must be stored in a sheltered place to prevent fading from sun exposure or deterioration from dirt & rain.

  • Missing pieces - We all know this happens! You can always extend the loan to give you time to find the piece. If it doesn’t show up, there is a nominal $5 fee per missing piece. If the piece reappears later, please return it & we will refund the missing piece fine.

  • Damaged toys - When a toy is damaged so it’s no longer safe or suitable for borrowing, a replacement fee may be requested.

Returning our toys

Before returning:

  1. Clean your toys by following our COVID-safe cleaning advice.

  2. Compare the toy against the inventory listed on the Toy Library label & ensure no pieces are missing.

Please bring the toys back to the Toy Library during opening hours. Our volunteers & coordinators will check the toys are clean, safe and complete before they are accepted for return.

Please don't leave them unattended on the front porch - where toys can go missing or become damaged.

If toys are returned late, there is a small charge payable. But if the toy library is closed when your toys are due, we won’t charge late fees.

Renewing loans

If you can’t make it in to return your toys, you can renew them online. Please note that some popular toys (in particular, outdoor toys) have a 3-week maximum loan period and are unable to be renewed. These are clearly marked on the toy label.

If your toys are long overdue & you’re feeling embarrassed about it, please don’t be! Life with kids gets hectic & we understand. Just give the coordinators a call or send an email & we can sort something out.
